A caesarean is either ‘elective’, i.e. a known medical reason and is pre-booked OR ‘emergency’, i.e. there is suddenly a problem in labour with Mum/baby and is important for health of both for baby to be born immediately.
A doula is mainly concerned with the ‘emergency’ situation.
