WHY DO A BIRTH DEBRIEF?

It is very important for a woman to put into context her labour and birth.  She will have no idea/memory of time frames, who said what, who did what, she will remember how she FELT.  What seemed like 5 hours to her, may have been 5 minutes.  The doula can put this into a time line for her.  Partners can be very helpful as they have a different memory.

Birth is such an important life event and the experience stays with you forever, and all sorts of things can trigger any raw emotions well into the future.  Women who have experienced medical intervention commonly feel like they are being swept along with no control.  It is only afterwards, and looking back, they have many unanswered questions.  We know, this can have an impact on many aspects of their life, including the relationship with their partner and their baby.
