I’M IN LABOUR AND WANT TO COME IN NOW!

November 15, 2022 By Susan Ross

I’m sorry but there is no room available in the Birth Centre

It was Anna’s second pregnancy.

Her first baby was born in water at a Birth Centre.  It was a calm and gentle birthing experience.

As the words NO ROOM AVAILABLE filtered through the phone, Anna felt quite shocked.  It was 10p.m.  She knew what labour felt like AND she knew birth was close.

The Birth Centre midwife had called in sick.  There was no staff available.  The Birth Centre was closed!  Anna was asked to come in to the Delivery Suite, but this was definitely not the environment where she wanted to birth.

She hung up and phoned me.  She did the Hypno-Pregnancy program so I had seen her regularly throughout pregnancy.  I was her doula as I had been for her first pregnancy/birth.

Anna was naturally upset.

“So when will the Birth Centre open again?”  Apparently tomorrow at 7a.m.

The regular Hypno-Pregnancy sessions throughout pregnancy had kept Anna balanced, and free from all the negativity that invades a pregnant woman.  She was very skilled at bringing herself into hypnosis and releasing fear and anxiety.  She understood how to harness the power of the mind.

I guided her into a deep hypnotic trance and suggested she stop labour for now.  Tell baby you are both going to have a nice rest and sleep overnight and you will wake up at 7a.m. in labour.

This is exactly what unfolded.

At precisely 7a.m. the following morning she phoned the Birth Centre to check they were open and midwife had arrived and advised she was on her way in to have her baby.

I met them at the Birth Centre.

All Smiles.  Beautifully centred with a focussed inward attention on working with her baby.  A beautiful thing to observe.  DO NOT EVER break this connection.

I ran the bath.  Anna eased her small frame and magnificent pendulous belly into the relaxing warmth, slipping into another world.  About 45 minutes later she quietly advised her partner, midwife and me that baby’s head had emerged.  And shortly after the whole body was out and gently floating.  The stillness at that moment was breathtaking.  No talking.  Just being guided by Mum as she reached down and held her baby in her arms.  Mum, Dad, Baby connecting on the outside.

How you are during pregnancy and how you give birth are totally controlled by your unconscious mind.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU LABOUR & BIRTH HOLDING ON TO FEAR

May 1, 2022 By Susan Ross

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU GO INTO LABOUR HOLDING ON TO FEAR?

HOLDING ON TO FEAR?

IF YOU’VE EVER BEEN PREGNANT OR ABOUT TO GIVE BIRTH, YOU MAY WELL HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO, OR RECOGNISE SOME OF THESE ‘helpful’ TIPS THAT OTHERS JUST LOVE TO SHARE

THE ‘ADVICE’

  • “It’s normal to be fearful of birth”
  • “All women have fears going into birth”
  • “Don’t worry, just leave it in the hands of your obstetrician, that’s what you’re paying him for”
  • “There’s always the epidural available anytime you want it.  I had one and it was a life-saver”
  • “Look, birth is excruciatingly painful, but that’s why they have drugs!”
  • “You’re going to a great hospital where all the services are available if something goes wrong”
  • “Just book an induction, early, so it won’t hurt as much. That’s what my doctor has advised”

Unfortunately, it has become a battle for many women who, at the beginning of their pregnancy are excited, elated and positive and then just get slowly beaten down, and down, until they give in to the unrelenting verbal assault of pregnancy ‘advice’!

Some of this ‘advice’ comes from people who actually believe they are ‘setting this woman on the right path’!  Maybe they have had ONE experience of birth, which was an unexpected event, which has left them traumatised.  Maybe they consider themselves to be ‘expert’ because they work in the medical field or ‘alternative’ health area.  Maybe they are a journalist who has had a baby and now just has to write a book about it – to let the world know what it is really like!

Pregnant women will tell you it is rare to meet someone who tells them how amazing and wonderful labour and birth is, and the overwhelming joyous moment of meeting your baby on the outside

HOW FEAR IMPACTS LABOUR & BIRTH

The unborn baby is listening and learning and absorbing and laying down a blueprint for how the world is and how it will be on the outside.  Baby feels his Mum’s reaction to all comments made, all she reads, listens to and watches on TV/movies.  This is the time where we all form beliefs about our parents, about life, about other people, about relationships.

FEAR CYCLE

FEAR=TENSION=PAIN cycle is present in women during pregnancy and manifests in labour, if not addressed.  When there is a tight, tense muscle, in any part of the body, it causes pain.  The uterine muscle, by weight, is the strongest muscle.  This is the main reason we have so much medical interference in birth.

THE ANTIDOTE – 4 ways to ensure a happy, enjoyable labour/birth for you & baby

  • Notice that you are carrying fear from the present or past imprinting
  • Healing is essential to change negative & unwanted unconscious patterns about birth
  • Nurture yourself and practise relaxation/meditation
  • Learn to manage the negative comments by a well rehearsed one-liner e.g  “my baby and I would appreciate positive words only”.  Think of it as educating the friends/family/general public.

A baby who is grown in a loving, safe and fearless womb environment is looking forward to meeting his Mum/Dad on the outside.  A joyous connection in pregnancy creates an enjoyable labour/birth and a happy, calm, confident and secure baby.

IMPORTANT:  Early imprints can be healed and transformed with hypnosis.  You and your unborn baby deserve to experience the Hypno-Pregnancy program.  More info. and to book

OUR OWN BIRTH AFFECTS THE WAY WE GIVE BIRTH

February 28, 2019 By Susan Ross

CONCEPTION – was it planned?  Were you wanted?  Imprints from conception include your parents’ energy and the kind of relationship they were having.

Connecting with your baby

PRENATAL IMPRINTS – come from the womb environment and your experiences during your time in the womb.  Was the womb a healthy or toxic environment?  Did you experience stressful events, e.g. arguing parents, divorce/separation, losing a twin, death of a family member causing grief, abuse, neglect or an ongoing stressful situation.  Our prenatal experiences affect the way we experience our birth and our birth affects the way we give birth later on as an adult.

Birth can be traumatic, especially with medical intervention in a hospital.  Even if it is not traumatic it is a profound transition from the inside to the outside, which affects us all.  This transition must be understood so both Mum and baby can birth with dignity and respect.

Unresolved womb, birth and other traumas can come up in pregnancy and affect the opening up and letting go necessary to give birth naturally.  Past traumatic imprints can manifest in the present and distort your perception of what is happening in the moment.

Healing before birthing helps clear the way for baby and creates the space for a joyful, positive and empowering birth experience.
